Here is a
bit of information on the members of Up The Creek!
Pam
Curtis - (Lead Vocals - Mandolin) Pam was born in Cincinnati
Ohio and moved to Fort Myers, Florida in 1966 where she met and
married her high school sweetheart, John. Her Bluegrass roots
evolve from family born and raised in Hazard, Kentucky where her
grandfather worked as a coal miner. Her ancestors were musicians
who played and sang "Mountain Music" while they lived
the life described in many Bluegrass lyrics. Her first interest
in the mandolin was January of 2002 when her mother presented
her with a vintage Gibson which belonged to her father. Her mother
and grandfather were both accomplished guitarists who played professionally
for many years. Pam and her late husband founded the "Up
The Creek" Bluesgrass band in 2002. She continues to play
and perform many of the original songs written by John as well
as songs she remembers from her childhood. "Up The Creek"
has entertained at Bluegrass Festivals around Florida and she
hopes to continue doing what she loves for many years to come.
Ed
Wybranowski - (Harmony Vocals - Banjo) Ed Wybranowski is
the banjo man for the band. He was born in Grand Rapids, Mich.
After military duty at Redstone Arsenal, AL he moved to the Cape
Canaveral area of Florida where as a NASA Engineering Manager
participated in over 150 manned and unmanned launches. It was
there that he developed an enduring love of bluegrass music. Ed
also plays the guitar and bass and sings all the parts. He was
the leader of the popular "Wybranowski Mountain Boys"
and "Taylor Creek". Most recently he was associated
with "The Orange Blossom Ramblers". He cites Sammy Shelor
and Steve Dilling as his banjo heroes and hopes their good sense
of timing and tone is reflected in his playing. Ed is also the
editor of a monthly email newsletter about bluegrass events, The
Florida Bluegrass News. bluegrass@wildblue.net
Christine
Wybranowski - (Harmony Vocals - Guitar) Chris was born and
raised in Satellite Beach, FL where she became interested in Bluegrass
through her parents. She began playing rhythm guitar in high school
and shared lead vocals with her father in "The Wybranowski
Mountain Boys" and "Taylor Creek" bands. They have
played numerous Bluegrass festivals in Florida as well as participated
in many late night jams.Chris moved to Ocala in October 2004 to
be closer to her parents. When her mother passed away, Chris learned
how to play her Mother's bass. She has enjoyed playing on stage
and in the parking lot for many years and has made many good friends
in Bluegrass.
Lance
Ohl - (Upright Bass) is the newest addition to Up the Creek.
Lance was born in Bethesda Maryland, but raised in Madison Florida.
He played the piano as a kid, but mostly he played the radio.
A “classic rock” fan, Lance learned to love Bluegrass
when he moved into the house across the street from Pam Curtis.
After listening to a few Bluegrass Jams he decided he must participate.
He borrowed a bass for a week, decided he liked it, bought a ’61
Kay and never looked back. He still hasn’t figured out how
to carry the Bass on the back of his Harley-Davidson, and it won’t
play clearly in the underwater caves he dives in, so he has to
split his time between those three passions. Lance is currently
exploring his musical heritage by trying to resurrect some songs
written by his Grandfather, W.T. Rycroft back in the 20’s,30’s
& 40’s. He has set up a recording studio in Fort White
and was the Producer of Up the Creek’s second CD “Live
2008”.
